Joey Harrel
Originally from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Joey Harrell is an educator, researcher and voice clinician. He received his Ph.D in Musical Education at Penn State University with an emphasis in musical theater voice pedagogy. His research focuses on speech-based singing for voice building and habilitation as well as how teachers learn to teach, specifically the experiences of novice teachers.
Joey maintains a private voice studio in NYC where he works with professional musical theater performers. His clients can be seen on Broadway, national tours, TV/Film as well as in regional houses and BFA musical theater programs throughout the country. Most recently, he founded the company BroadwayVox which focuses on providing innovative educational resources to teachers and singers. You can follow him @singingwithjoeydotcom.

Erin Whitfield
Noted for her golden, lyric line and “hilarious acting and excellent timing” (Great Lakes Bay Reviewers Circle), soprano Erin Whitfield is equally comfortable in the worlds of opera and musical theater. Erin is an active performer around Michigan’s Great Lakes Bay region and beyond, frequently on the concert stage, in community theatre productions, or in recital with her husband Collin at area churches. Favorite recent roles include Hattie (Kiss Me Kate), Mary Flynn (Merrily We Roll Along), Mother (Amahl & the Night Visitors), Amalia Balash (She Loves Me). She has enjoyed supporting productions from off-stage as Music Director/Vocal Coach including Legally Blonde at Saginaw Valley State University, and Youth Theatre productions of 13 Jr, Honk!, and Seussical at the Midland Center, among others. Erin holds her Master of Music in Vocal Performance from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and Bachelor of Music from Pacific Lutheran University.
Erin finds great fulfillment working with voice students of all ages, both as owner of Whitfield Voice Studio and as an Adjunct Voice Instructor at Saginaw Valley State University since fall of 2023. Her voice students have appeared at the Jimmy Awards (winner, 2024 Gretchen Shope), participate annually in events such as the Sutton Foster Musical Theater Awards, the chapter and national levels of the National Association of Teachers of Singing adjudications (national winner 2023 for Upper High School Treble Musical Theater), district and state Solo & Ensemble contests, school and community theater productions, summer programs including Interlochen, and present regular studio recitals. She has also supported numerous students on their journey through collegiate music and theatre program auditions. Her teaching focus revolves around student-centered learning – empowering singers to find their innate talent, develop their personal artistry, and bring it joyfully into the world.
